OIL MAN

Blood, Sweat, and Barrels

Lease the ground, raise a derrick, drill on the rock as it really lay, and haul your crude to a market that pays what the kerosene in the barrel is worth.

Two halves, one story

The game is built on the record. Every rule that comes from history links back to the books, articles and photographs it came from.

Why it works this way

Landowners ask their own price, and leases dearer near activity

Each landowner asks 60 to 160 percent of the going rate. A lease rises 25 percent for each neighboring lease taken, and doubles beside each one where a well found oil. At Pithole in 1865, the Holmden farm went from $25,000 to about $1.3 million.
